The more we learn about gardening and food security for the local community, new little ideas and projects pop up along the way to benefit all. For me, a small but important idea has been growing for a while. I watched a great documentary a while ago, called "Need to Grow" where the importance of food security, soil quality and seeds were emphasised. A little girl started a "Seed Library" for her school, and this project later spread to other nearby schools and community gardens. Click here for a link to watch this great documentary for free!
This inspired me to create Porlock's own Seed Library, filled with only high quality, organic, non-GMO, heirloom seeds to help with the food security for our local community. I have contacted companies who specialise in heirloom seeds and asked for seed donations for our library.
Have a read here about the benefits of a local seed library.
She Grows Veg - The Heirloom Seed Co. has generously donated our first five packets of seeds, all heirloom, non-GMO seeds to help provide our community with fresh, healthy produce form plants that can still generate new seeds at harvest time, so that we can keep the library going year after year. Click their logo below to read about Lucy and Kate who runs this company, which is on a mission to bring beautiful heirloom seeds to the UK.
Please support their brilliant small business if you are looking for high quality seeds to grow your food.
Thank you so much Lucy & Kate for your generous donation!
