Porlock Gardens in Low Simonside is the culmination of the aspirations of locals and small community businesses alike. Its inception was born from a shared desire to create a space that would breathe new life into our community and offer a range of exciting possibilities.

Porlock Community Gardens has a rich history as a hub for growth and education. In the past, it flourished under the management of the council's Adult Services Team, offering valuable activities and learning opportunities to the community. However, over the years, the site has fallen into neglect, lying abandoned.

Recognizing the untapped potential of this cherished space, the Bilton Hall Community Trust informed the South Tyneside Council of our unwavering commitment to restoring Porlock Gardens to its former splendor when we assumed responsibility for the community center. Now, the moment has arrived to turn our plans into reality!

Divided into three distinct areas, Porlock Gardens has something for everyone: the Community Area, the Growing Space, and the Service User Area.

In the Community Area, you'll find a vibrant space for families, friends, and neighbors to come together, play, relax, and build a sense of belonging. It's a place where the laughter of children mingles with the chatter of old friends, and where lifelong memories are sure to be made.

The Growing Space is where budding green thumbs can cultivate their gardening skills and grow their own fresh produce. It's a space where the community can come together to foster sustainable practices and enjoy the fruits of their labour. Here, you can not only learn about gardening but also participate in the joy of watching your efforts come to life.

Our Service User Area is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for special clients who are looking to build their confidence in being more eco-conscious while nurturing their personal growth. Local services, such as therapy and counseling, will have a defined space to work with these special clients, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility towards our environment.

The vision for Porlock Gardens has been met with enthusiasm from locals, community businesses, and various community groups. With ample space for all to enjoy, Porlock Gardens is on a mission to revive its full potential and serve as a welcoming and inspiring space for everyone.

So, whether you're a nature enthusiast, a parent looking for a perfect family outing, a budding gardener, or someone seeking personal growth and a connection to the environment, Porlock Gardens is here to cater to your every need. We invite you to step into this green oasis and join us in this exciting journey of growth, togetherness, and sustainability. Porlock Gardens - where opportunities bloom!

"We might think that we are nurturing our garden, but of course it is our garden that is really nurturing us. "

      - Jenny Uglow

We are working hard to open up the gardens for you all to enjoy, and plan to open to the public later this spring!

      Welcome!
